Obtain Microsoft Software Licenses at a Discount

The Campus Agreement and the Select Contract

The UVa community can obtain Microsoft products (like the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office) at a discount through:

  • The Microsoft Campus Agreement, which allows the following members of the UVa community to obtain the Windows operating system and the Microsoft Office suite, plus some Client Access Licenses (CALs) and other items, without an additional fee:
    • Faculty or staff in Agency 207 (largely state-funded academic and administrative units); and
    • All students, except those in Continuing Education.
  • The Microsoft Select Contract, which allows UVa departments to purchase software licenses for all Microsoft software (for both Windows and the Mac) very inexpensively. Using purchase orders, this software can be installed on any machine owned by UVa.

These contracts ensure all software at UVa is fully and legally licensed.

Costs and how to obtain For faculty and staff:

For students:

  • If purchasing a computer through Cavalier Computers, software already pre-installed; no additional costs
  • If not purchasing a computer through Cavalier Computers, do not buy Microsoft Office until after you arrive on Grounds, where it is available from Cavalier Computers for just $10 (see Student Use)
  • Must pay with LPO/PO (purchase orders)
  • Check website for costs of individual products (see Obtain Your Software)
  • Must pay for license; manuals, CDs, etc, are optional purchases
